14th Annual Dogwood Pancake Breakfast Big Success - 04/21/2018

Hundreds of happy patrons found their way to our new location at First Baptist Church, 735 Park Street on Saturday , April 21, and made the 14th Annual Kiwanis Dogwood Pancake Breakfast a big success.  The  Benjamin Hair Just Swim for Life Foundation will receive proceeds from this year's "Kiwanis Pancakes on Parade Day."  The always popular "Celebrity Pancake Servers"  amazed the young and the young at heart.  Special thanks go out to the many corporate sponsors of ads on our placemats and especially to cold beverage sponsor Pepsi Cola of Central Virginia and gourmet coffee provider, Milli Coffee Roasters.  For...


Jefferson Area Aktion Club Beautifies Rivanna Trail - 04/17/2018

President Mark Millick led fifteen members of the Jefferson Area Aktion Club in a beautification project at Riverview Park on Tuesday, April 17.  Under the guidance of Chris Gensic director of Charlottesville Parks & Recreation, enthusiastic  Aktion Club members from the Virginia Institute of Autism's Adult Academy and from Innisfree Village prepared the ground on both sides of a stretch of the Rivanna Trail and spread wild flower seeds of about a dozen different varieties.  Chris invited the Aktion Club to return to the Park in about a month or so to admire the beautification they accomplished and perhaps spread seeds along a further stretch of the...

CKI @ UVA Donates Blankets to NICU - 04/12/2018

Lexi from Circle K International at UVA delivered nearly 100 blankets to the UVA NICU today. These amazing blankets will be used as Isolette covers to help block light from the premature babies until they are ready to graduate into into a regular crib. WOW, GOOD WORK!!!!! Grand Home Furnishings Sports Equipment Drive - 04/07/2018

Grand Home Furnishing Store--1801 Seminole Trail --On Saturday, April 7, at 11 a.m., Kiwanis teamed up with Grand Home Furnishings and UVA Athletics to collect new and slightly used sports equipment to be be donated by Kiwanis to various youth-based organizations that can use equipment for their participants.  The equipment, which had been collected by the store with the help of a media promotion for the past two weeks and will continue through the rest of April, was turned over to Kiwanis at the gala opening of Grand's new "UVA Room."  The event was broadcast live by radio personality Pam Garrison of WCYK--99.7--Hip Country, who provided...


Kiwanis Service Work Night at J-MRL Central Library - 03/26/2018

A dozen Kiwanians met at the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library Central Library on Monday, March 26,  for the monthly "Dick Fowler Memorial Service Work Night."   Central Library Manager Krista Farrell had Tom Lowe and Charlie Krizek add a touch of mulch to the beautiful landscaping in front of the library, while  other Kiwanians settled into the Children's Department to tackle the job of labelling scores of books to be distributed to children, youth, and young adults in the lbrary's annual summer reading marathon.  More photos of our efforts at one of our most favorite work night locations can be seen at the gallery...


Sixty Kiwanians Gather for Mid-Year Conference at Henley Middle School - 03/24/2018

The Jefferson Area Aktion Club celebrated the presentation of its charter at a mid-afternoon event at Wegmans Market Cafe's Timber Room on March 6.  This brand new Service Leadership Program  sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Charlottesville unfurled its banner, installed its officers, and officially inducted 17 members into the club.  Members of the Harrisonburg Kiwanis Aktion Club were in attendance on this special occasion, as were staff and friends from two key partner agencies, Virginia Institute of Autism (VIA) and Innisfree Village.   Aktion Club is a branch of the Kiwanis family of service organizations collectively dedicated to serving the community...
