WHO WE AREKiwanis is a global organization of volunteers, both men and women, dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time.  Chartered on April 3rd, 1922, the Kiwanis Club of Charlottesville has approximately 56 members who come from many different backgrounds and are all dedicated to fulfilling our mottos: " Serving the Children of the World." #KidsNeedKiwanis

SERVICE LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS (SLPs) Our club sponsors Key Clubs in four area high schools (Albemarle High School, Monticello High School, Western Albemarle High School and Charlottesville High School), a CKI Club at the University of Virginia, and a K-Kids Club at Venable Elementary School.  More than 400 youth in these six clubs are engaged in programs that teach leadership skills and perform meaningful community service projects. In March of 2017, the Kiwanis Club of Charlottesville board approved the establishment of two Aktion Clubs in Charlottesville,  Aktion Club is the only service club for adults with disabilities, with more than 12,000 members worldwide.

MEETINGS: We meet on the first, second, and third Mondays of each month at 6:30 p.m.   The fourth Monday, and the occasional fifth Monday, have been designated as "Service Work Night" at a different local agency each month.  Guests are cordially invited to share a meal with us and learn about opportunities to join us for volunteer service that contributes to the betterment of our community.  Please see our Meeting Schedule for the latest information about when and where we gather "to serve the children of the world."

(NEW!) THURSDAY LUNCHEONS: To encourage those who can't join us every Monday evening to serve, we now offer an alternate time to meet.  This group of about 25 Kiwanians holds a luncheon meeting at 12:30 pm on the first and third Thursday of each month. (see our Meeting Schedule for the exact location and agenda.) Kiwanians from the luncheon group help out on service work nights, join in for special activities and on special volunteer projects, and develop and conduct service projects of their own. All the planning of our highly successful Independence Day 5K is done by Kiwanians from the luncheon group, with the rest of the club pitching in on race day.

VOLUNTEER SERVICE NIGHTS: Our fourth-Monday service work nights typically take place at a local non-profit. See News items to the right of this page and Photo Gallery to see what we do at these agencies.  Our Kiwanis Partners page shows the agencies with which we have worked over the past year or so.  See also our Projects page for more info.  #KidsNeedKiwanis

THINK GLOBALLYKiwanis International was founded in Detroit, Michigan in 1915. There are over 350,000 Kiwanians and more than 600,000 K-Family members in 84 countries around the world.  KI's current worldwide service project, in conjunction with UNICEF, aims to Eliminate Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus (MNT) from the face of the earth.  This project follows KI's previous successful project, also with UNICEF, of eliminating Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD), the leading preventable cause of intellectual disabilities,  worldwide.

ACT LOCALLY: The Kiwanis Club of Charlottesville is one of more than 150 Kiwanis Clubs in the Capital District of Kiwanis, providing community service throughout Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia. See our Newsletter page to download the Capital Kiwanian newsletter, Charlottesville is one of 6 Kiwanis Clubs in Division 9 of the Capital District.
