Kiwanians at Work on Cozy Comforts - 01/18/2018

Heather Mott and Sue Shiels brought together a dozen Kiwanians Thursday afternoon, January 18, at the Salvation Army gym to sort more than a hundred children's books donated to the Cozy Comforts Project.  First the books were selected in accordance with their condition--almost all were in mint or near-perfect condirtion.  Then they were sorted by age group and subject matter.  Heather and Sue supervised the inventory and the packing up of the books so that they would be ready for the next step, which will occur during the following three weeks, individually assembling roughly three dozen Cozy Comfort back packs to be presented to the children and families in...


Kiwanians Ring for the Salvation Army - 12/23/2017

President Eric Lamb (center with his nephews) and President-Elect Sean Horn (in the loudest jacket in town) lead off the annual Kiwanis Club bell-ringing effort for the Salvation Army at Kroger Rio Hill on Saturday morning, December 23. Two Kiwanians per one-hour shift rang from 10 until 3 at Kroger and also at Giant Rivanna Ridge.  In addition, Key Clubbers from all four Key Clubs rang at numerous locations throughout this area making this a truly successful K-Family  service event.  See more photos at the web site photo gallery http://kiwaniscville.org/Page/30195


Holiday Party at WorkSource Enterprises - 12/11/2017

WorkSource Enterprises, 1311 Carlton Avenue, Annual Holiday Party for Persons with Disabilities.  Two dozen Kiwanians and K-Family volunteers came out to WorkSource Enterprises. to host our annual holiday party for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities at WorkSource Enterprises on December 11. We served a dinner of barbecue and fixings catered by the culinary arts program at CATEC to more than fifty guests, including young adults with disabilities from Region Ten CSB, Arc of the Piedmont, and from WorkSource Enterprises.. 3rd Annual 'Tis the Season Pancake Breakfast - 12/09/2017

Hilton Garden Inn (Pantops) hosted the  Third Annual Tis the Season Pancake Breakfast to benefit three outstanding charities helping children and youth: Ronald McDonald HousePeople Places, Foster Care/Adoptive Care Agency; and UVA Children's Hospital Safety Store. Trees and Wreath Sales Brisk During 2nd Week - 12/05/2017

Barracks Road Holiday Parade Features Kiwanis Christmas Trees - 12/02/2017

The Pepsi float carried beautiful Kiwanis Christmas trees and wreaths, and enthusiastic Kiwanians and Kiwanis Family members rode in the truck and walked along side handing out 500 flyers inviting the parade goers to get their trees and wreaths this year at the Kiwanis tree lot at Seminole Square.  All proceeds go to support our six Service Leadership Programs, the Kiwanis Little League team, and the Holiday Party for Persons with Disabilities at WorkSource Enterprises. CKI @ UVA Hosts Breakfast with Santa at Ern Commons - 12/02/2017

Annual event celebrating the holiday organized by CKI at UVA for kids and their families from the Boys & Girls Club, Salvation Army, and from local public schools.  TOYS! STOCKINGS! GAMES! FOOD! CKI at UVA Tie Blankets for UVA Children's Hospital - 11/29/2017

Newcomb Hall, UVA  --CKI @ UVA invited the K-Family, UVA students and staff,  and the public to drop in anytime between 10 and 2 on Wednesday and Thursday, November 29-30, at the Commonweath Room on the third floor of Newcomb Hall to help tie blankets and make teddy bears to be given to the patients at UVA Children's Hospital.  More than 50 blankets were snipped and tied utilizing a "no sew" method introduced by PLG Barb Ritter for the Sweet Dreams and Cozy Comforts projects.  For more photos, see our web site gallery for the November 29 date:  http://www.kiwaniscville.org/Page/30195.  


First of Three Wreath-Making Nights at WorkSource - 11/20/2017

WorkSource Enterprises, 1311 Carlton Avenue.  -- Fraser Fir tips were delivered by our Christmas tree vendor from Valley Head, West VA and Kiwanians and K-Family members and guests  engaged in the first of three fun-filled Monday evening wreath-making and decorating events.  IN a marathon first session, thirty large wreaths wee constructed and decorated. Kiwanis, Key Club, and CKI Volunteers Shine at Hospice of the Piedmont - 10/30/2017

Two dozen volunteers from Kiwanis Charlottesville, Charlottesville High School Key Club, Albemarle High School Key Club, and Circle K International (CKI) at UVA came together to accomplish no fewer than (count 'em) nine projects in a two-hour service work night session at Hospice of the Piedmont.  Envelopes were stuffed, brochures folded, tea lights tested, syringes assembled, address labels affixed, dining booklets sorted and stacked, and on and on until the Kiwanis dinner bell rang and volunteers enjoyed the fellowship of a Tex/Mex fiesta complete with home-made brownies and cookies for dessert.  Advancement Officer, Jackie Gamache, read a letter of thanks from...
